Share this video of what parents & teens need to know about sharing photos. Almost every teen has a phone and is active on social media or apps in which they can message, share photos and videos.
There are many advantages to technology and apps but as we know there are many negative effects as well. The number one thing I want parents (and teens) to be aware of is consequences to sharing photos that are sexual in nature.
In Canada and with many other countries, there are laws to protect children and distribution of photos that are sexual in nature. What people need to understand is what I explain in the video is that 2 teenagers in a relationship that share photos or video that are sexual in nature whether these are nudes or other photos, that this is considered possession of child pornography. Now, if these teens break up and one of the two decide to share photos with their friends, this would be considered possession. These are serious offences and a criminal offence.
As teens are dating younger, talk to them about all of this. Yes, it can be uncomfortable but its important information to know and share. If you don’t want to talk about it, just send them this video! Teach your kids to be safe and be careful what they share.
